Meet the Pastors of St. Lucas

Pastor Peter Unnasch

Lead Pastor - Peter Unnasch

Peter Unnasch grew up on a dairy farm just outside the village of Nodine in Winona
County, MN. He is a graduate of Luther High School in Onalaska, WI, Northwestern
College in Watertown, WI, and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI. He
served his vicar year in Virginia, served as Assistant to the Dean of Students at Dr Martin
Luther College in New Ulm, MN, and served congregations in Utah and Nebraska before
accepting the Call to serve at St Lucas in 2008.

In 1991, Pastor Unnasch married Tracy Redlin of Watertown, SD. They are blessed with
three children: Naomi, Sam and Paul; a golden retriever named Annie; and two gerbils.

“It’s really a joy to serve with the brothers and sisters here at St Lucas,” says Pastor
Unnasch. “And Bay View – it has a small neighborhood feel and yet it has so many
opportunities for sharing Jesus. One of the greatest thrills in ministry is to sit down with
someone who has never really heard exactly what Jesus has done. You can’t put a price
on moments like that.”

Pastor Robert Gurgel

Senior Pastor - Robert Gurgel

For more than 23 years, it has been Pastor Gurgel’s privilege to share the love of Christ as one of the pastors at Saint Lucas.  He served as Lead Pastor from 1988 until 2010 when, at his request, that leadership was handed over to the next generation.  Now, he serves full-time as Senior Pastor.  During that time he has enjoyed Christian friendship and growth with thousands of people through that ministry.

Tracing the road that led to Saint Lucas, the previous step was serving as pastor for a congregation located in a small farming town in Northwest Ohio.  His only other congregation prior to that was serving as the first resident pastor for a new congregation which was started in Mitchell, South Dakota.

Pastor Gurgel’s preparation for ministry began in his home where mom read Bible stories to him through which God created a love for His Word. He also witnessed the life of a pastor through his father.  So – lots of influence to consider preparing for such a calling if it was God’s will.  Continuous training was provided by attending two Lutheran elementary schools; a boarding high school for ministry; four years of Christian college on the same campus, then four years of seminary training – three on the campus of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Thiensville (Mequon), WI and one a year of practical training at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor, MI.

It’s nothing but grace to know Jesus and to grow with others in that knowledge and service!  To be a shepherd working on behalf of the Good Shepherd is joyful undeserved honor.

2 Year Reading Plan of the Bible (NIV 1984)

The Today's Light Bible helps individuals and groups read and study the entire NIV Bible in just two years, breaking the readings down into manageable daily portions that can be completed in just 15 minutes or less. Brief devotions based on the text help readers understand and apply that day's Scripture selection to their lives.
